WHAT IT IS
Prolozone therapy is a form of regenerative medicine which use injections of ozone along with other therapeutic elements to stimulate the body’s tissues to heal themselves.
The word “Prolozone” is taken from the Latin word, “Prolix” which means to rebuild, regenerate, and heal. Several tissues in your body including ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and other kinds of muscle respond well to the infusion of healing serums used in Prolozone therapy.
WHAT IT DOES
Prolozone is a two-part injection. The first contains numbing medicine, b vitamins, dextrose and a small amount of steroids (which can be removed) followed by injection of ozone gas.
Ozone is a highly unstable gas because each of its molecules contains three atoms of oxygen instead of the typical two. Introducing ozone to the affected area breaks apart the gas into harmless O2 and a free radical single oxygen. The body responds to these free radicals by:
- Increasing blood circulation
- Sending healing cells such as fibroblasts and chondrocytes
This sets off a reaction of tissue regeneration using the extra of nutrients. The additional vitamins and minerals in the serum also support the repair of tissues while lowering inflammation levels.
WHAT IT'S USED FOR
Patients suffering from joint pain may find immediate pain relief that lasts weeks or even months. Most people feel better after one injection, though for some, it may take a course of 2-3 injections to feel the full benefits. Some patients use prolozone in conjunction with conventional injections as a way to space out the time between the more repressive steroids.
